What does it mean to you?
To want something so bad,
How far would you be willing to go?

Would you fight for it?
Put your life down on the line just to die for it?

Knowing that it’s in your grasp
Would you be afraid reach out and grab it?

What would you do just so you can have it?
Would you spend your last dime, just so you can keep it?

Journey to the ends of earth,
just to seek it?

Would you give up your shelter and call it your home,
just so you can call it yours and yours alone?

Would you give up a lifetime of happiness, just so you can have it?
Even if that might times of sadness?

And if it was yours, would you be able to claim it? For all that it is and all that you make it?

I’m worried about my shadow,
she has strayed away from me

Instead of keeping me company
she has camouflaged herself in the light

And although I cannot see her,
I know she is always there
haunting me

Hovering above my head
and lingering underneath my feet

I’m frighten when I see her
She stands taller than I,
her shoulders are broad
and her hips are wide

Her reach has no limits,
her fingertips can reach through the clouds and wave to the Gods

She has become so free
and for some reason it bothers me

Who is she?
Is she still my shadow?
Who has she become?

Even in the dark her smile is still bright
She is taunting me with her delight

Her voice has a slight hiss to it
and when she laughs it seems as though,
she is constantly laughing at me

She has become the center of attention,
the star of the show

But once upon a time she was my shadow

the idea of this “baddie” fashion trend in which popular white girls on instagram and tumblr wear what black girls in the hood have and were literally wearing since 1995 and getting paraded for it irks my fucking soul. being bowed down to for being “thick” and wearing skintight leggings (that only seem to be in khaki or olive green?) with Adidas or Nikes and our bomber jackets that the little hood fashion boutique store on the corner loved to sell and overlined lips and overfilled faux thick browns and the big hoop earrings and our cornrows (boxer braids??) jesus christ? black girls and latinx girls too have been getting called ghetto for all of this for YEARS and somehow it managed to turn into 2015-2016′s top fashion trend without us getting an ounce of credit for it
